Falling in Love Only Takes About a Fifth of a Second, Research Reveals

University Professor Stephanie Ortigue reveals falling in love can elicit not only the same euphoric feeling as using cocaine, but also affects intellectual areas of the brain. Researchers also found falling in love only takes about a fifth of a second.

Results from Ortigue's team revealed when a person falls in love, 12 areas of the brain work in tandem to release euphoria-inducing chemicals such as dopamine, oxytocin, adrenaline and vasopression. The love feeling also affects sophisticated cognitive functions, such as mental representation, metaphors and body image.
The findings raise the question: "Does the heart fall in love, or the brain?"
"That's a tricky question always," says Ortigue. "I would say the brain, but the heart is also related because the complex concept of love is formed by both bottom-up and top-down processes from the brain to the heart and vice versa. For instance, activation in some parts of the brain can generate stimulations to the heart, butterflies in the stomach. Some symptoms we sometimes feel as a ScienceDaily (Oct. 25, 2010) — A new meta-analysis study conducted by Syracuse manifestation of the heart may sometimes be coming from the brain."

Ortigue is an assistant professor of psychology and an adjunct assistant professor of neurology, both in The College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University.
Other researchers also found blood levels of nerve growth factor, or NGF, also increased. Those levels were significantly higher in couples who had just fallen in love. This molecule involved plays an important role in the social chemistry of humans, or the phenomenon 'love at first sight.' "These results confirm love has a scientific basis," says Ortigue.
The findings have major implications for neuroscience and mental health research because when love doesn't work out, it can be a significant cause of emotional stress and depression. "It's another probe into the brain and into the mind of a patient," says Ortigue. "By understanding why they fall in love and why they are so heartbroken, they can use new therapies." By identifying the parts of the brain stimulated by love, doctors and therapists can better understand the pains of love-sick patients.

The study also shows different parts of the brain fall for love. For example, unconditional love, such as that between a mother and a child, is sparked by the common and different brain areas, including the middle of the brain. Passionate love is sparked by the reward part of the brain, and also associative cognitive brain areas that have higher-order cognitive functions, such as body image.

Ortigue and her team worked with a team from West Virginia University and a university hospital in Switzerland. The results of the study are published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.
Ortigue worked on the love study with colleagues Francesco Bianchi-Demicheli (Geneva University Psychiatric Center, Switzerland), James Lewis (West Virginia University), Nisa Patel (graduate student in SU's College of Arts and Sciences) and Chris Frum (West Virginia University). Ortigue's follow-up study about the speed of love in the human brain is expected to be released soon.

Conducting personal business on your smart phone? Safe guards everyone desperately needs to know.

Today’s smart phones and other e-devices are basically mini computers full of your most sensitive information.

It’s important that you be fully aware of this, and that your information stored within, is constantly under attack by hackers. A breech of  your network, could create untold devastation for you.

On-line banking for instance, poses one of the greatest threats for obvious reasons. You’re especially vulnerable when using a WiFi network that can be easily hacked and intercepted by savvy criminals.  Having a secure network with proper filters is your best defense.

Also, be wary of free apps. you download from the internet. Some may just  be encrypted with spy-ware that can ruin your financial, and personal goals. Use only apps from a reputable source. Cyber security is an ongoing problem that should always be of concern to you

If you’re not sure how to set up better security on your own devices, speak to your dealer for technical support.

It’s much more prudent to be safe than sorry.

Mercury Amalgam tooth fillings leaking toxic vapors.

When mercury amalgam fillings are installed in the teeth of people, this mercury vapor is inhaled where it enters the bloodstream. It then causes neurological damage which may lead to chronic fatigue, headaches, seizures, changes in mood and perhaps even autism and Alzheimer's disease.
This video from IAOMT.org shows mercury fillings off-gassing mercury vapor.

Alarming theft reports of call phones growing.

Mounting police reports warn that cell phone, I-pod, and all portable e-devices are experiencing a heightened degree of theft. Thieves are even desperately snatching cell phones and small hand-held e-devices right out of users hands, and running off.  Simply leaving your e-device on the table of a restaurant or on a check-in counter can spell disaster these days. Chasing after a snatch-and-run thief is not recommended as they may be armed, or have associates nearby.

Stolen cell phones such as "smart phones" can be sold on the black market for upwards of $200-$300 each in many cases. Along with your phone goes scads of stored personal information as well. This is an unsustainable loss for many, and may have devastating security consequences as well.

Many devices have optional apps. available that may be able to track a stolen device. Check with the dealer for such security options. Of course such protection won't do much good if you don't take some action prior to such a theft.
Better yet, be advised, and don't make yourself an Easy Target.

Today, Obama's FCC announces its intention to regulate our Internet.

Mon, 20 Dec 2010

The FCC 's pending ruling on "net neutrality" is raising concerns ..... eventually would exert tighter control over Internet content, but proponents say the measure ..... Comment." Should Gov't Regulate the Internet ?
The FCC's pending ruling on "net neutrality" is raising concerns that it eventually would exert tighter control over Internet content, but proponents say the measure simply would ensure companies like Verizon or Comcast can't block or slow access to certain websites while giving favorable treatment to others.
Let's get real here. What do you think will happen when the government controls the privacy of our internet, and therefor our freedom of speech.
Control of the media is the first liberty to disappear when the ultimate goal of government is to fully control the population. Starting to resemble Germany in 1936??

Here’s a great find...chemical free spring water. Find a spring in your area.

Simple pure water is a hard thing to find these days. It’s no secret that municipalities fluoridate, and chlorinate our local drinking water supplies.  And, it has become a well known fact that chlorine, and fluoride are toxic and never intended for human consumption.
However, in order to make our drinking water aquifers safe from bacteria, pollutants, and pathogens etc., these chemicals are added for our so called protection. But, are they really protecting us, or are they adding another dangerous equation to the complexity that nature never intended.

The argument from government is that the levels of these purifying toxins is so low that they pose no threat. My issue is that may be true for the short term, but what are the health affects after years of ingesting these so called low miniscule levels?

So here’s a great find….
Natural spring water, untouched by human progression is a terrific find, and a source of untold pure stimulant. To find a source of Natural Spring Water near you go to:  www.findaspring.com

High Tech. Hijacking/Electronic Pick-pocketing

Has hight-tech gone too far? Imagine a portable credit-card-reader capable of reading your credit card information in your wallet as the device is passed by you on the street or while in a crowd, or just standing in line. Identity thieves can swipe and read your credit card while closely passing to hijack your personal information by the use of RF Tag Skimming. This is accomplished by reading the magnetic strip on your card if it is equipped with the latest RF (Radio Frequency) sending transponder used in the newest state-of-the-art credit card reader technology.

The details are technical and difficult to describe, and is better accomplished by viewing the attached video detailing the entire process. And, describes a way to defeat these newest of High-Tech Pirates.

Stop Driving Doctors Out of Medicare

A warning from AARP:
"If Congress doesn't act by year end, doctors who treat seniors will see their Medicare reimbursement rates slashed by 25% next year – an unprecedented cut. This extreme pay cut could mean many Medicare patients will lose their doctor or be unable to find a new one."
__________________________________________________________

This, all a result of Obamacare. While fraud and outright theft proliferate the Medicare industry, the government says they are aggressively going after perpetrators. But, as usual, it may be to little to late. Unfortunately only time will tell. Regardless of your age, this will be devastating not only to seniors, but anyone, and everyone with senior family members, or dear friends. We are all becoming unwilling victims threatened by the ever sharp scalpel of Obamacare.

How Can I Tell If a 'Skimmer' Has Been Put on My ATM?

It can be hard. These devices that thieves attach to the card slot in order to capture account information from your card's magnetic strip have become more sophisticated. One tipoff: Most ATMs have a flashing light at the card slot. If the light is obscured, that's a sign of tampering. Other giveaways: a card slot that is not securely attached or has a different color than the rest of the ATM. Use ATMs in bank lobbies and other places with 24-hour video surveillance. And always cover the keypad as you enter your PIN, because a thief's spy camera may be watching

More health threatening news regarding Frankenfoods!

Within the last 10-15 years the big biotech corporations of DuPont, Monsanto, Bayer and Dow, have bought up more than 200 other smaller companies, allowing them to dominate access to seeds.
As a result, in the U.S., 90 percent of soybeans are genetically-modified, and many conventional farmers have trouble obtaining non-genetically.

The takeover has been so outreaching that it is becoming difficult for farmers to find other alternatives.

Planning a vacation? Make it a sunny destination for health.

Tanning beds produce ultraviolet A and B rays. Although they produce the same beneficial ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays as the sun and add a pleasant tone to your skin, it's a well established belief in the health industry that the best source of those beneficial rays is the sun itself, in moderation.

And, taking a vitamin D supplement is not the optimal way to regulate your body’s vitamin D levels.

UVB rays from the sun help your skin to produce up to 80% of the vitamin D in your body.
Your body simply can't make vitamin D without exposure to UVB energy.

DID YOU KNOW?

Peel a banana from the bottom and you won't have to peel the 'stringy things' off of it.  That's how the primates do it!

Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store.  If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.

Store your open chunks of cheese wrapped in aluminum foil.  It will stay fresh much longer and not mold!

Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating.  Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.

Add a teaspoon of water when frying ground beef.  It will help pull the grease away from the meat when cooking.

Add garlic immediately to a recipe if you want a light taste of garlic and add it at the end if you want a stronger taste of garlic.

When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes.  You can double it in size.  You can frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount.  You also eat less sugar and calories per serving.

To warm biscuits, pancakes or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water.  The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.

When planting plants, wet newspapers and put layers around the plants, overlapping as you go.  Cover with mulch and forget about weeds.  Weeds will get through some gardening plastic, they will not get through wet newspapers.

When picking up broken glass, use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small shards of glass you can't see easily.

To keep away mosquitos, place a dryer sheet in your pocket, or tuck into your sock to protect bare
legs better.

To keep squirrels away from your plants, sprinkle cayenne pepper around the plant.  It will keep the squirrels away but won't hurt the plants.

Hate foggy windshields?  Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your vehicle.  When the windows fog, rub with the eraser!  Works better than a cloth!

Ladies, use your hair condition to shave your legs.  It's cheaper than shaving cream and leaves you legs really smooth.  It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like it when you tried it in your hair.

To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass, fill it 1/2 inch with apple cider vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid and mix well.  You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!

Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants.  They eat it, take it 'home', can't digest it so it kills them.  It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!

Holiday favorites are Calorie Friendly.

Holiday food favorites are calorie friendly. But beware of other unsuspecting offenders.

With the holidays soon upon us, the guilt factor becomes more pressing. You skip a little here, but add a little there, always sub-conscious of the impending consequences. But the biggest offenders may just be those carbonated, sugar laden soft drinks, and fruit juices that we all forget to tally in.

Already loaded with natural fructose, fruit juices can have devastating results as can your soft drink soda selection. Always be on the lookout for the High Fructose Corn Syrup additive that’s a dead give away that this drink may have hidden caloric consequences. Diet drinks aren’t much better, and may be more harmful since they include artificial sweeteners that may have unhealthy consequences in another way.

Skipping Meals

If you thought that skipping meals will help you lose weight, that thinking can be dangerous. Skipping means that you will likely be hungrier the next time you eat. Shaving off calories and substituting healthier choices are a smarter choice for weight loss.  And don‘t skip breakfast. Research shows eating a good breakfast can aid and maintain weight loss.

Some Carbs are good

Your body actually needs carbs to function properly. In all honesty, when you block out one food group, you're more likely to ditch the diet and quickly be discouraged. Carbs are used for energy and keeps your body going. When you eliminate all carbs, you could be missing out on all-important fiber.

You must focus your carbohydrate intake on foods that have more fiber and take longer to break down, also known as "complex carbohydrates." Foods like whole grains, beans, fruits and vegetables.

A good rule to follow is that If it’s white, it’s likely not right for your waste line. The biggest offenders are white rice, pasta, potatoes, and white breads.

Diet Rules To Follow

The golden rule of losing weight is when you're burning more calories than you're consuming. Don't look for fast fixes. Make weight loss and maintenance more of a lifestyle change. It's OK to lose weight "gradually and steadily" because crash diets often lead to less success.

Daylight Savings Time Fades Into Fall.

Saturday evening before you retire, remember to set your clocks BACK one hour or you may miss the early-bird breakfast.

Daylight Saving Time (DST) is the practice of advancing clocks so that there is more daylight in the afternoon hours. It is not observed in Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Arizona.
DST began Sunday March 14, 2010 (set clocks forward 1 hour)
DST ends Sunday November 7, 2010 (set clocks back 1 hour)

Worldwide daylight saving
Today, approximately 70 countries utilize Daylight Saving Time in at least a portion of the country. Japan, India, and China are the only major industrialized countries that do not observe some form of daylight saving.

Not the tropics
Equatorial and tropical countries (lower latitudes) generally do not observe Daylight Saving Time. Since the daylight hours are similar during every season, there is no advantage to moving clocks forward during the summer. China has had a single time zone since May 1, 1980, observing summer Daylight Saving Time from 1986 through 1991; they do not observe DST now.

Note that there are many oddities. For example, some parts of the U.S. and Canada do not observe Daylight Saving Time, such as the state of Arizona (U.S.) and the province Saskatchewan (Canada). Other countries can also be erratic. For example, Chile delayed its changeover date for the Pope's visit in 1987, as well as for a presidential inauguration in 1990

Your cell phone can betray you!

Cell phones are powerful computers, and they contain scads of your sensitive personal information, from bank account info. to balances, photos, text messages, private phone numbers, etc. Think about what you have stored in your phone. Keep in mind that it’s all retrievable, especially in the wrong hands.

Most Americans upgrade their phones every 18 months on the average, but fail to wipe their personal information contained within completely away. So prior to your resell, recycle or donating your phone, remember to completely scrub it clean, (electronically wipe) your phone of all of your crucial personal information.

You can have it professionally done for you, but if you choose to attempt it yourself remember that just deleting information is not quite sufficient enough, and it may still be present even if you cannot still see it, and it most likely has left an electronic footprint.

To permanently wipe it clean:

1. Remove the SIM card (SIM=Subscriber Identity Module)

2. Remove the Memory card if one is present in your device. This card is installed to load up on apps., video, and photos.

3. Reset the phone as detailed in the owners manual. Also, choosing to reset to manufacturers default settings will usually do the trick. If you have any doubt about you success, try calling the supplier or service location, and confirm the procedure.

You may also search online for directions. Just make sure you back-up anything you want to save, because once you reset your phone, it's gone for good.

Don’t rely on donation centers or trade-in dealers to automatically wipe it clean for you. Most won’t, so it’s up to you to make sure it’s done and over.

It's October & the Pink Ribbons are Flying!

Each October, pink ribbons flow and women are reminded that breast cancer is the second most common cancer affecting them, with skin cancer being No. 1.
About 200,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the U.S., and 40,000 will die from it.
That's why it's important for men & women to have the correct information when it comes to this disease. Keep in mind that over 2,000 men annually are diagnosed with breast cancer also.
Here are seven of the most common myths about breast cancer:
1. Myth: A lump in the breast always means cancer.
Fact: Eighty percent of breast lumps are benign, meaning they are not cancerous. Despite this, any woman who discovers a lump should see her doctor immediately and receive a mammogram if the doctor deems necessary, according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
2. Myth: Mammograms may cause cancer to spread.
Fact: A mammogram, which is essentially an X-ray of the breast, does not spread cancer. Neither the radiation from the X-ray, nor the pressure from the test can cause cancer to spread. It is also the best method of early detection for women over the age of 40.
3. Myth: There's no history of breast cancer in my family, so I won’t get it.
Fact: Dr. Marisa Weiss, an oncologist and the president and founder of breastcancer.org, said although women with a family history are at a higher risk for the disease, environmental factors such as drinking, smoking, medication and diet can all influence a woman’s chances of getting breast cancer. Knowing the history of breast cancer on both sides of your family is also important. Just because a woman doesn’t have a history of breast cancer on her mother’s side doesn’t mean she’s at a decreased risk. Her father's family history of breast cancer also increases a woman’s chances of getting it.
4. Myth: Having a mastectomy is the best way to cure breast cancer and prevent it from coming back.
Fact: Very few women diagnosed with breast cancer actually need a mastectomy, according to Dr. Diana Zuckerman, president of the National Research Center for Women & Families. “In fact, most of the women who get mastectomies don’t need them,” she said. “And for women to lose their breasts, in addition to the normal emotional turmoil that they go through having breast cancer, can be harmful emotionally and physically.”
Zuckerman said that about 75 percent of the women who get breast cancer each year will not need mastectomies and will rely instead on chemotherapy, radiation and lumpectomy.
5. Myth: Young women are just as likely to get breast cancer as older women.
Fact: Women older than 50 are most at risk for this disease, Zuckerman said.
Of the nearly 200,000 women who will get breast cancer this year, half will be over the age of 61, said Weiss. About 25,000 women, or less than a quarter of the patients under 61, will be under the age of 40.
“It’s still a significant number, but when you compare it to the overall number of women who get breast cancer, it’s a small percentage,” she said.
6. Myth: Breast cancer is fatal.
Fact: “Breast cancer is not fatal in and of itself,” said Zuckerman. “What makes it fatal is if it goes into other parts of the body and gets into the lymph nodes, lungs and other organs."
The cancer may also spread to the bones and blood, which increases the risk of fatality. This is why detection and treatment before it spreads is important in the fight against breast cancer.
7. Myth: Men don’t get breast cancer.
The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be in excess of 2,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer diagnosed in men this year, and appox. 450 will die from the disease.

All medical procedures should be discussed in detail with your doctor or professional medical advisory staff.
